GameSpot reviewed Crash Team Rumble, found a tiny $40 live-service lobby, and still tried to call it fresh.

“Crash Team Rumble is a fun and surprisingly tactical PvP game, albeit sometimes held back by oft-seen growing pains of games-as-a-service.”
First of all, when a review says a multiplayer-only live-service game has one mode, a slow battle pass, awkward cosmetics, missing daily challenges, confusing matchmaking feedback, repeated opponents, and a $40 entry fee shrinking the community out of the gate, that is not a 7/10. That is a fire alarm wearing a Hawaiian shirt. GameSpot listed the smoke, pointed at the flames, noted the exits were blocked by wumpa fruit, and then handed the building inspector a smiley-face sticker.
