GameSpot gave Final Fantasy XVI a 9 after filing a bug report with confetti on it.

“However, those peaks are also met with dated design conventions that stick out like sore thumbs, making for some noticeable lulls in the 50-plus hours I spent with the game.”
GameSpot's Final Fantasy XVI review is a beautiful example of calculator theatre: the text walks into the room carrying a clipboard full of caveats, then the score bursts through the wall wearing a 9/10 sash like the Kool-Aid Man at a math conference. The review says there are 'dated design conventions,' 'noticeable lulls,' odd pacing in the first half, weak sidequests, low difficulty, and a structure that is 'pretty straightforward.' Then it looks at that pile of deductions, gently covers it with a chocobo blanket, and declares near-masterpiece. The math aint mathing; it is doing interpretive dance in a tax audit.
