GameSpot gave Ahsoka a 2/10 after watching exactly 25% of it

Let's start with the denominator, because GameSpot didn't. Ahsoka is an eight-episode season. Disney provided two screeners. GameSpot watched those two episodes and stamped a final, permanent, ring-shaped 2/10 labeled TERRIBLE on the entire season. That's not a review, that's a weather forecast for December issued in March. You cannot score 100% of a thing using 25% of the data — that's a sample size a pharmaceutical company would go to prison for.

But here's my favorite part, the part I've laminated: the review itself argues against its own score. Direct quote: 'there are still six more episodes to go, so don't count it out.' Sir. SIR. You counted it out. There is a giant red 2 at the top of the page. You wrote a number that says 'unwatchable disaster' and then a sentence that says 'jury's still out,' in the same document, like a judge handing down a life sentence and adding 'but who's to say, really.' The review also notes that Disney+ shows 'can vary dramatically from week to week' — which is a statistician's way of saying 'my data is volatile and I should not extrapolate' — immediately before extrapolating.

Now let's run the internal audit, because GameSpot's scoreboard is where numbers go to dissociate. This same outlet gave The Acolyte an 8/10 from the same kind of Disney screener buffet. It gave two episodes of Rings of Power a score. It gave two episodes of Secret Invasion a score. The methodology is consistent — watch the free preview, grade the whole semester — but the outputs swing six points depending on, as far as I can tell, barometric pressure. A 2/10 on GameSpot's own scale means 'Terrible,' a grade they historically reserve for games that crash while installing. Ahsoka's crime was boring lightsaber fights. On this ruler, an inch is sometimes a mile and the ruler is made of soup.

And the final insult to arithmetic: if two episodes earn a 2, then by GameSpot's own rate of one point per episode watched, the full eight-episode season projects to an 8/10 — which is coincidentally what they gave The Acolyte. I'm not saying the score is wrong. I'm saying the score is unfalsifiable, unfinished, and self-refuting, which in my field we call 'not a number, a mood.' The math aint mathing.
